Fishers Sports Pavilion
In 2015, Mayor Scott Fadness introduced a proposal for a $76.4 million privately owned and operated, multi-purpose sports and entertainment project to be constructed near the Lake District at Saxony Village at the intersection of 136th Street and Olio Road.
The proposed Fishers Sports and Entertainment Complex will serve as a center for athletics, concerts and community events for decades to come. Currently, there are three components to the project up for consideration.
A 4,200 to 6,000 seat arena with suite level seating that can stage athletic events, trade shows, concerts and other forms of entertainment. The arena would include two sheets of ice (one in the main arena) and is capable of supporting hard courts for basketball and volleyball; mats for wrestling and gymnastics; and staging for musical acts.
A 245,000 square foot facility built with logistics technology that allows for flexibility and a myriad of different uses. The building would be equipped with both hard court surface and turf, and could hold up to 32 basketball / volleyball courts, at least one full football field, a mezzanine level with a track for walking or jogging and a 200-meter running track.
A 630-space, three-level parking garage is proposed as part of the project. There will also be surface parking throughout the complex to accommodate event parking.
Future development in the complex could include a sports medicine facility, additional office space and a hotel and conference center.
According to a Hamilton County Sports Corp. economic impact study, the new complex could bring an estimated $110 million in annual economic impact. In addition, the project would bring nearly $80 million in new assessed value to the Saxony Village.
Leases for Community Programs
The City of Fishers, through a 20-year agreement, will lease a portion of the field-house to be used for the growing intramural sports programs, as well as a track for walkers and joggers. The agreement includes:
- Use of 12 courts or turf Monday through Thursday from 3 – 9 p.m.
- Community access to walking/jogging track six hours a day Monday through Friday
Economic Development Agreement
The City Council will need to vote on the project at an upcoming council meeting. The economic development agreement that is up for consideration includes:
- A 10-year tax abatement for the arena and parking garage ($200K annually)
- Waiver of impact and permit fees for the entire project
- A 20-year lease agreement with the City of Fishers, which includes an annual payment of $805,000 to be paid by project property taxes, park impact fees and ticket charges
